I find it surprising that those who ask questions seldom vote on the answers received. Is this not rather rude? What do you think?

I think if you are going to ask a question, you should at least have the decency to look through and rate each answer and then finally decide on a best answer.
I agree with you mate that I too think it is rude if left to a vote..

The asker is out all there asking points if they don't vote. So there is that redress. I think it dismissive and thus rude. Although I can imagine ocassionally an asker getting sidetracked by something else or just plain forgetting / not knowing to vote on answers recieved.

I think they want someone to do the work for them and don't want to bother with the voting. They may want to try a tutor for assistance.

it is i suppose, people ask on here to get help and if they dont rate the answers do they even read them?
