simplify using only positive exponents. do not rationalize the denominator.

1. square root (4x-16) / fourth root {(x-4)^3}

2. [ (1 / x^-2) + (4 / x^-1 y^-1) + (1 / y^-2) ]^(-1/2)

sorry if its confusing (specially the second one...) let me know if you want clarification on any part of it!! thanks for the help!!!

Okay so the problem is y=the square root of x+17

x cannot equal -17.

So do I use brackets or parenthesis. Thank you to everyone who answered my first question, but I don't understand how you would know that -17 IS included or IS NOT included.

1)You invested $7000 in two accounts paying 6% and 8% annual interest, respectively. If the total interest earned for the year was $520, how much was invested at each rate?

2) Thing did not go quite as planned. You invested $8000, part of it in stock that paid 12% annual interest. However, the rest of the money suffered a 5% loss. If the total annual income from both investment was $620, how much was invested at each rate?

Please help? How do I solve?

Hi, i don't understand how to solve this quadratic function: y=-3x^2. I can't seem to know how to find the axis of symmetry, vertex, and how to plot it. I Know how to solve questions like this y-5=-(x+2)^2. But I don't know how to solve that basic function. Help me asap please. Thanks in advance.

The answer is tan(10) if that helps at all, and the directions say to simplify this using appropriate identities! (NOTE: The apostrophes do not denote derivatives... they're just there to keep everything aligned.)

' ' ' ' ' ' ' 2
------------------------
cot 5(1 - tan²5)

What baffles me is the random cot stuck in there. It's not attached to anything, there's no variable after it, etc. I transcribed it just how it is in the book. I don't know if it means the cot of 5(1 - tan²5) or what, but it's driving me crazy!

I'll pick a best answer TODAY if anyone can help me with this! Please explain what steps you're using if at all possible! Thanks!

2. Secondly, the book is showing the answer as "3x^2 + 3xh +h^2 + 3" I can not achieve this answer.

Two folks decided they are right for each other, the third wanna be was left out. Isn't it wrong for the one who didn't make it to take it out on the ones who did by causing them all kinds of trouble within family, friends, society, workplace, etc. anyway he can? What does it say of this kind of individual? Isn't it right that he got left behind on the way side? Should he be looking for someone more like himself instead ? Should we fear him and try and include him in our circle just to keep him in good humor or ignore and move on and tread carefully?

I don't understand the question, actually. When they say "the minumum value," are they asking for a value of f(x)? So the answer would be 1^1 = 1? or 0.5^0.5 = 0.707? I'm confused.

"There are distinct integers m and n such that 1/m + 1/n is an integer."

The only thing I can think of is the values of m and n are +1 and/or -1 for the sum of these fractions to give an integer. Other than that I am lost formulating the proof.

Thanks much for your help!
