do the graphs of a square root function and a logarithmic function look the same??

In my summer review packet for calculus we have to find the domain and range of different functions by hand. I graphed this one and found the domain to be any real number, but i don't know how to find the range without using a calculator.

i had to make log(5)17 a common log with a base of 10..

so ...i made it 10^(log(5)17) which is log X = log (5)17 which is log X = 1.760. is that the same thing as making hte equation a common log??
