Thanks for taking a look at my question. This has been puzzling me for days. I need a formula to plug three numbers in to. Let's say X, Y, and Z, where X > Y, but either X or Y may be positive or negative. The third variable, Z, falls somewhere between X and Y.

I need a formula to figure where, in percentage-point terms, Z falls between X and Y. For example, if X = -100, Y = +100, and Z = 0, then the result would be 50. Keep in mind that this needs to work when X and/or Y are positive and/or negative.

I look forward to what you folks think about this problem. Thanks a lot!

It's summer, and with summer come the annual raffles for various goods and services. Here is my question: Let's say we sell 500 tickets to win a Harley. 2nd prize is $500, 1st prize is $1000, and grand prize is a new Harley. One of the people in my club said we should draw the GRAND prize first so that everyone has an equal chance of winning (no winning tickets are returned to the pot in our drawing). I think it makes no difference. 1/500 to win 2nd place, 1/499 to win 1st place, 1/498 to win Grand. Odds of winning grand are dependent upon NOT winning the 2nd or 1st prize, but shouldn't it still total to 1/500???? IE- does the order drawn increase, decrease, or not affect the odds of winning the bike??? Thanks!!

I have the region enclosed by y=x^3 and y = √x rotated about the line x=1.

I'm supposed to find the volume using integration.
The answer in the book is 13pi/30.

However, I keep getting 2pi/5 with respect to y and 5pi/14 with respect to x.

Which, of course, doesn't make sense, because if I was doing this correctly, the answer with respect to either x and y should be the same..right?? uhh..

I don't see what i'm doing wrong.

This is how I started out. A(y)=[ pi(y^2)^2 ] - [ pi(y^(1/3))^2 ]

I didn't think I needed to add or subtract distance because the two functions meet at x=1.

Help please! Ack!
