Yes, I believe a lot of Greek architecture utilizes this ratio, and I'm sure it can be found in artistic paintings as well.

something we call "the golden ratio" exists... it is only
in our heads, though.

someone decided that a certain ratio was pleasing and
then named it.

I think they got it backwards...

x^2 = x+1
1/x = x-1
