Ok our math teacher decided to give us this annoying problem in geometry with very little information given.
So on a graph per say, a line is shot out from (0, 0) to point
(49, 1). A circle with a circumference of 2.5 inches and it's center on point (1,0) has an annual cross growth of 1.5 inches squared (so i'm guessing the area of the circle increases by 1.5 each year). Now if the cylinder's center on 1,0 increase 1.5 inches squared a year, I have to find out approximately how many months it'll take before the line gets intercepted by a side on the circle. Each square unit on the graph is equal to ten feet. I'm sorry for a crappy explanation, I sort've didn't get much better. But basically you have a straight line from 0,0 to 50,1 and a center of the circle at 1,0 that has a starting circumference of 2.5 inches and a growing area at the rate of 1.5 square inches per year. Please tell me someone has some idea of what the heck to do, don't need to do the calculations just the plan.

The cost of fuel to propel a boat through the water(in dollars per hour) is proportional to the cube of the speed. A certain ferryboat uses $100 worth of fuel per hour when cruising at 10 miles per hour. Apart from fuel, the cost of running this ferry is $675 per hour. At what speed should it travel so as to minimize the cost per mile traveled?

Consider the following number:

1/(2)^(1/2) - i*(arcsin(1.235711131719...)) - pi/2) = (a),
which is approximately equal to .03332266499855....
where i is the square root of -1, the decimal digits in the argument of the arcsine function consists of the string of all the prime numbers, and pi is defined to be the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Is this number rational or irrational? Or, if one takes the first 100 primes and strings them together approximate the number in the argument of the arcsine function, can someone calculate the number of (a) to 100 digits accuracy?

I am studying accounting in college. I have read a section on mark-up percentage and I don't understand where they are getting thier numbers from. They say calculate markup like:
Markup percentage = markup over Sales price. As example they give: a cd reltailers is: Markup percentage= $7.00 over $15.00 = 46.7%. But where are they getting that number? When you put a number over another number doesn't that mean divided by? If thats the case then it doesn't work out. I don't get it, can someone please explain in laymans terms? It would be appreciated. Thanks.
