Ok, this is a trinomial, and you need to factor it into two binomials, which means that you would use foil. First, Out Inner, Last.
the first step should look like this:
x^2+7x+10
(x )(x )
each one has to have "x" first because X times X = X^2

then you need to find TWO numbers, hint the name, BInomial, 2 numbers, that will BOTH add to be 7, but you can multiply to get 10. if your not sure how to do this, find that factors of the number that has no variables:
1, 2, 5, 10,
now, 1 and 10 when multiplied =10, but if you add 10 and 1, you get 11, so they aren't right, but, if you multiply 2 and 5, you get 10, and if you add them, you get 7
so the answer would be:
(x+2)(x+5) or (x+5)(x+2), it doesn't matter the order that they are in because of the distributive property of multiplication.
to check yourself, use FOIL
x times x is x^2, x times 5 is 5x, 2 times x is 2x, and 2 times 5 is 10, which is also, x^2+2x+5x+10 which when simplified is x^2+7x+10
hope that helps!

I presume you mean for X therefore this is a quadratic equation
so first set it to = 0

x^2 + 7x + 10 = 0
factorise
end up with
(x + 2)(x + 5)

Is this a practical joke? The answer is staring you in the face.

X^2 + 7X + 10 = 0

Therefore, (X+5)(X+2) = 0

Therefore X is either -5 OR -2 (Q.E.D.)

Come on, where's the punchline then?

x^2 + 7x + 10 = x^2 + (2+5)x + (2*5)

can you see that? Sooo...

(x + 2)(x + 5)=0
so x = -2 and x = -5

FACTORISING gives:-
(x + 5).(x + 2)

If this is part of an equation then:-
(x + 5).(x + 2) = 0
x = - 5, x = - 2

You can't work it out. It's an expression, not an equation. I could factorise it (lots of people already have). But work it out?
A couple of people assumed it is equal to zero, and found x for that. But it is not stated in the question.
In short, the question is meaningless.
