Granite weighs 2.7 pounds for 2 cups and gold weighs 20.1 pounds for 2 cups. If it is gold and granite, it would be 80% granite and 20% gold. It was found in a rock quarry in British Columbia, Canada about 3 miles from an old gold mine. I want to know what is inside, for certain, without openning the rock.
Thank you for the help.

I know that, after a few million years, mountain ranges and islands erode down to nothing. After four and a half billion years, why haven't the continents eroded away into the oceans, or been destroyed by subduction? What geological mechanism is at work?

My Grandfather found a Meteor on the ground somewhere in Kansas, and brought it to me, but I've heard that Iridium, a key material in meteors, is highly toxic in certain compounds. Should I be worried?

Antiquated technology like combustion engines, coal, petrolium etc. With the knowledge that so many of the lesser accepted technologies have advanced far beyond the common understanding, shouldn't we try to move to a more advanced future instead of wallowing in our own comfort pool?

1. Which of the two elements present in the sample is the parent and which is the daughter?

2. There are a number of assumptions that need to be made in order to calculate the age of this sample using radiometric dating methods. How much lead-207 and how much uranium-235 must you assume were present when the granite formed?

3. Given the half-life for uranium-235 is 713 million years, determine the age of the granite sample.

If anyone can help me with these questions, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Louise.

Then you move yours out of the way so mine can flow freely by. If there's a rain drop in the gutter and a ray of sun light hit's it at just the right angle because of the curvature of the drop you can see a rainbow in the gutter. So, go play handball underneath a pregnant ant to the curb!
