Antiquated technology like combustion engines, coal, petrolium etc. With the knowledge that so many of the lesser accepted technologies have advanced far beyond the common understanding, shouldn't we try to move to a more advanced future instead of wallowing in our own comfort pool?

No because of one word: "Change".
People are afraid of it. Consider the following:
-Try getting someone who has smoked all their life to quit.
-Try getting someone who is obese to work out and get into shape.
-Try teaching your grandmother to learn how to use a computer if she has never touched one in her life.
People, in general, are resistant to change. To add to this I would say that people who head the rich corporations that run the world economy are most definitely resistant to change because why would they want to give up the power they have?

As the world social order moves to the next era and technology ratchets up to mega speed --- it will become more like the world of the Borg as opposed to the "fantasy land of the Jetsons" !!
Take a look around you.....as technology increases....mankind is slowly, but surely being ushered into a world where the central powers control more and more of the individual's freedoms and liberties --and thru technology it is being done faster and faster and with more and more efficiency !! Look, very soon, for the individual microchip implantation programs that will tag us all like cattle !!
So, drop your visions of FantasyLand , here , dude--- the brave new world we have coming at US is anything BUT the happy go lucky world of a cartoon family !!!!

The problem with these antiquated technologies are they are the only ones we can work properly. If we did away with them then we would probably be more like the Flintstones.

I would love to see that happen. Unfortunately, there are too many deep pockets involved along with ignorance on the consumers part for me to ever hope that it will happen in my lifetime.
