This is really two separate questions, so even if you just answer one that would be great.

And how do you know? What is the method used to name them?

a) [Ni(NH3)6]^2+
b) MnS
c) Cr(OH)3
d) Fe(SCN)^2+

Balance the following redox equation:

I^- + SO4^2- + H^+ --> I2 + H2S + H2O

I seem to remember that you have to do something special with redox reactions when balancing the equations. Do you have to balance the charges too or somthing? Or just balance it like a normal equation?

hey guys,
in the mononitration of 3-bromochlorobenze: i know that both Br and Cl are ortho-para directors. but in case when both happen to be on the same ring is true that Br dominates (since it is easier for the Br to send its electrons rather than Cl). In this particular question would the NO2 go in the position 2 (between the Br and the Cl),or it wouldnt be favoured because of the steric hendrance??

Thanks

Would a weak acid start out high or low?
When it hits equilibrium what happens? does it level out?
Im very confused....i add HCl(stong) with NH3(weak) and I know it hit equilibrium when 20mL of HCl has been added...

any help is great!

i heard that some compounds of phosphorus glow in the dark, i need to know which ones, and are they hazardous, where can i get them -or can i make them easily at home- and are they soluble in turpentine or linseed oil. OR are there any other chemicals match the above. i need to make glow-in-the-dark oil paintings asap. please, urgent!!!

On the electrochemical series, using a more reactive metal at the top of the series, e.g. magnesium, and also a less reactive metal at the bottom of the series, e.g. copper, will create a larger current than using zinc and iron together. The larger the distance on the series between two metals, the larger the current they produce.

This means that if we use potassium and silver together, an even larger current will be generated. But why do people don't use this couple in cells? Besides potassium being expensive and also easily oxidized, are there any other reasons for not using this couple?

Will the current over discharge drop rapidly if we use potassium and silver together? Thanks!

A hydration sphere:

A) allows for the dissolving of polar/ionic solutes in aqueous solvent

B) allows for the dissolving of polar/ionic solutes in non-aqueous solvent

C) involves electrostatic attraction between molecules

D) involves ionic bonds with the sharing of electrons between 2 atoms

E) both A and C

Only answer if you know the answer, and don't paste large amounts of text. Would like an explanation why you chose that letter.

Enzymes:

A are composed mostly of protein domains
B have greater affinity for their substrates
C can initiate biochemical cascade reactions

Pick the one you KNOW is right, DON'T paste me paragraphs of text! I'd like a couple of lines explaining why you chose it.

Hi guys! Please help with the question!
A solution is prepared by dissolving 15.0 g NaOH in 150.0 mL of 0.250M nitric acid. Calculate the concentrations of all the ions present in the solution after the reaction has occured. Assume no volume change on addition of NaOH.

The equation would be: NaOH + HNO3 ---> NaNO3 +H2O

The way teacher explained was:
1) we find #moles of NaOH =..........=0.375 mol
2)find #moles HNO3 =...............=0.0375 mol
...but then she identifies concentration only for [OH], [NO3], [Na] ions....why not for [H] ion as well?
and to find the moles for OH^- she wrote:
OH^- = 0.375 mol - 0.0375 mol
why do we substract NaOH from HNO3 to find OH??

THANK YOU!!!!
