Sodium hypochlorite (laundry bleach) mixed with ammonium hydroxide (household ammonia) produces a toxic gas called chloramide or chloramine. It smells very much like, and is about as toxic as chlorine gas.

Do not try this experiment at home -- I did it when I was young, and it chased the entire family out of the house for several hours until we could air the house.
