Alright in bio we did a lab where an old candle was placed in a finger bowl. The finger bowl was filled with 150 ml of water so the water went up to 1/2 of the candle. You light the candle and cover the candle with a beaker. In about 10 seconds, the candle goes out. Why did that happen?

My father is 5ft 10, my mother 5ft 6 and I, at 18, am 5ft 8.

I just wanted to know if anything else contributes to the growth (height) of a person apart from it being written in the genes?

I've recently started a course in radiography although my initial choice was to study nursing. However through mere chance i got onto radiography. I feel now that radiography is the right course to study as its very interesting. More interesting then nursing, although more difficult - but i still wonder if nursing is better.
I know i should decide what course is right for me personally but i just want to know other peoples opinions. If you had the choice what career from the two would you go for and why? which do you think has better future prospects?

2 questions ...

1. does sperm cells carry both xx or xy chromosomes or only x or y?

i think it is either x or y.

2. do each testicle(human) produce either x or y chromosome sperm or do they both produce both x and y?

cause then you could just get a vasectomy on one testical, or extract sperm from the testicle with the sex you want for artificial insemination and get the child sex you wish for.

thanks for responding

_______________

NOTE: Innate behaviour refers to the actions of an animal or human that aren't quite described in genes, but are expressed without prior experience through watching another individual. They are the responses to a stimulus that are quickly figured out through an attempt. (definition from Wikipedia)

Since the placenta is bathed in the mother's blood, and the veins and arteries all take in blood from the blood bath, how do the veins know to take in oxygenated blood? Since the blood bath will contain both oxygenated blood(given by the mother) and deoxygenated blood (pushed away from the baby).

Did I miss something out? Or is there some explanation on how the veins know what type of blood to take in?
