I was thinking about evolution recently, mostly about the theory on how man/woman evolved from the ape/gorilla etc. A question arose in the form of "if we evolved from said animals, then how are said animals still in existence?" It seemed a logical inference to me that If something evolves/metamorphs into something else, then it can no longer be what it was. Should this theory be taken as only a select strong and superior few evolved, while the weak and inferior majority stayed the same? Just curious if anyone knows anything about this theory. Thanks!

Is a person's nose a combination of both parents' noses? From what I've been noticing, it seems so but of course, I'm not certain ...

I remember back in grade school they would teach us that you can only go a few days without water and only about a week without food. Does it depend on the weight of the individual? Say a fat person was stranded in the woods, would they survive longer without food and water since they have so much stored fat in their bodies? A friend and I are debating this topic, so any insight you can give would be helpful.

The topic probably sounds wrong or something but I'm only 14 so forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions.

Okay, according to my teacher, humans actually didn't look like what we look like now and one piece of evidence is our tail bones. According to her, we stopped using our "tails" and because of that, they got in the way and to adapt (am I using he right term in the first place?) our tails slowly disappeared. She mentioned other examples but I was already confused with this one.

What confused me was, if the tails disappeared just because we found no use for them, then, let's say, mosquito bites annoy us too, so would we in the future not itch anymore or something?

So what exactly causes us to adapt and change physically?

My friend, who is a knower of such things, told me that the fossil record shows new animals, but never shows the little steps between the new animal and the one it came from. He also said that we don't know the process that causes evolution because the Modern theory has ruled out natural selection as a way of getting new species, and genetic mutation has been ruled out because of various mathematical and fossil record problems.

He was trying to tell me about creatures getting stuck in limiting breeding populations as a part of the process and said there are some other new theories. Can anyone explain to me better the limited breeding population theory and some of the pother new theories?
