I read this from a book ages ago but it sayd that someone yawns because the lungs needs abit more air; when one person does this another person will also yawn because of the same reason.
I dont think that made sense

It's contagious because you show a sign that you are tired, and when you do when there are people around you, they just think "Oh boy am I tired too" so they yawn automatically. It's not necessary for people to be tired to yawn, it's just....somehow contagious! *yawn*

It is our sociological need to fit in with our peers or role models. We tend to also adopt the same body language and actions as our friends and coworkers. When one of us takes a drink, the other follows suit. However, if we are rebellious of the other person, we may not do this.
