I've been wondering, when in a car you measure speed on a speedometer based on the rotation of the wheels. In an airplane you measure airspeed relative to the air. But in space, where there is no road and no air (or pressure) how do you measure your speed? If it's the case where you measure it against a near object, what if there are no nearby objects?

The atmosphere in Jupiter is very deep, perhaps comprising the whole planet, and is somewhat like the Sun. It is composed mainly of hydrogen and helium, with small amounts of methane, ammonia, water vapor and other compounds. At great depths within Jupiter, the pressure is so great that the hydrogen atoms are broken up and the electrons are freed so that the resulting atoms consist of bare protons. This produces a state in which the hydrogen becomes metallic. If there was an atomic "starter" could that create a new star with limited fuel

my point is , how do we know somthing is there when were not looking at it AND how do we prove it? we cannot prove it NO MATTER what!!!!

when i was small (11 years old ) i used to wonder, did my toys move around when i slept and go EXACTLY back to there places 5 minutes before i woke up and look at them (the time before i wake up is not relative)....i know, i had a big imagination, BUT dont laugh at me, and dont say a camera is the solution, for the princible works just the same ( the moon reapears when the camera points at it)...

so is the moon really there whn we dont look at it?

If the Sun becomes a red giant that has a radius 100 times larger than its current radius and a luminosity 1000 times its current luminosity, what will its surface temperature be? (Use the Stefan-Boltzmann equation and solve for T).

If we made a model of the Milky Way that had the diameter of the Earth, how big would the Earth itself be in this shrunken model? (Assume that the Milky Way's diameter is 50 kpc for this problem.)

Given that the Sun moves in a circular orbit of radius 8 kiloparsecs around the center of the Milky Way, and its orbital speed is 220 kilometers per second, work out how long it takes the Sun to complete one orbit of the galaxy.

Can you please show your work. Thank you in advance for helpin me :)

Since we have a lot of tools to look into the galaxy have scientists ever came across stars wtih the exact chemical make up and age of our sun? Would these stars have formed in the same nebula that the sun was birthed in? And why did they drift away?
