I was reading on HowStuffWorks.com that our water crisis might be more serious than we think. Would it be a possibility to us salt water in amenities like toilets and water our lawns. I don't know if that would rust our pipes or kill our lawn but is it?

Sometimes when I walk though automatic doors like at a supermarket they jam up. Fot a while it happened every time, its very annoying cuz you think its going to close on you or something.
They usually jam open and the motors are still running and buzzing. Alot of the time the sensors dont pick me up when I'm going to them either... I am short but kids go through these doors everyday with no trouble. so why dont they like me lol

How do you, as a layperson, decide what you think is science and what you think is pseudoscience?

Of course, there are elements in science that fit well into common technology that we prove daily (no one denies the existence of microwaves or the legitimacy of aspirin, for instance); but I'm curious about the things scientists know but can't prove to the general public (either because it's not applicable to technology, because the proofs require extensive educations to understand, or both).

How do you separate the astrology from the astronomy, the chemistry from the alchemy, the cutting edge from the science fiction? If someone tells you about a spectacular new medical technology, how do you decide if it's a great breakthrough or a snake-oil health fad?

I work in physics (quantum and particle physics), and I'm curious about perspectives on this matter from people who aren't scientists; I'm curious how everyday people decide what to trust as legitimate and what not to trust.

just because they come out with things doersnt mena that they have ever come up with the things they ment too,. so all the things a scienctist looks like, is all the things we have that we atribibute to science,., if a scienctist, cant be seen asa a scientist unless told or by what you notice on him or her, that you see out in public, if a scientist is supposed to where it or what ever, if you dont know all the reasons why, then an object he finds is because he doesnt know you trust scienctist to rule the wolrd, they know someone like me could do a better jobe,. so they expect people who, understand theings like how a person can use a caculator to have a better perspective on science, or do you truly feel that what we know, and what we expect, just becuase we cant be sure, is something that has to happen,., when really if we understanfd things that arein our world there are more than just those theyr are also the ones we carry around with us,.,if scinec leaves us like that then i can
