He hung himself because while he was indwelt with Lucifer , he did everything the prophecy called for on the day of Christs arrest . When Satan left him , he realized what he did , and couldn't live with it any longer .
On the other hand the gospel of Judas ( as read from the Nag Hamadi books found in Egypt ) Put Judas on a pedestal and called him Christs most beloved disciple . and was ordered by Jesus to do this to full fill his destiny . Either way he hung himself

Judas hung himself, when he realize, that he betrayed Jesus for 30 silver coins. And leaves on the tree ( believed to be an aspen) is always tremble,even when is absolutely no wind, as in shame if Judas betrayal.

You are absolutely right they hung Judas because they paid him to turn Jesus over in doing this he realized the error if his ways and repented. Now they can't allow him to tell of this treacherous deal or Jesus would really be martyr so they hung him and cut his belly open. All things were done to fore-fill Bible prophecies.
