I'm not saying ghosts aren't real, just that, that particular show IS scripted.

fiction: pretty much everything on TV, including half the news
fact: mommy makes dandy bread pudding!
FYI, James Randi is like a cop. Cops see the worst of people's behavior and often get jaded to believe there really is NO good in people. Randi has seen so many fakers profiting off people that he doesn't believe anything is real.

My guess is because he doesn't have the media savvy or charismatic personality equal to that of two full time professional plumbers that talked the Sci-Fi channel into giving them their own show.
