I know how the step up or down transformer works or even a voltage divider. Would one us the same kind of transformer to combine a voltage from for example a alternative fuel generator and a wind mill to achieve suitable household voltage. possibly the ability to wire utility company source voltage so that it is the last resort for use when operating several energy generating sources? (note I am not trying this at home!)

We talk about the 'five senses', though obviously we have many more than the usual sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste - we can sense the passage of time, heat, the position of our limbs, etc.

I read a list of over a dozen in a popular science book (perhaps 'Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze', or something like it); but I can't remember what was on the list.

All the scientists die and go to heaven. They decide to play hide-n-seek

Unfortunately Einstein is the one who has the den...........He is supposed to count up to 100...and then start searching.....

Everyone starts hiding except Newton.........

Newton just draws a square of 1 meter and stands in it right in front of Einstein.

Einstein's counting 1,2,3......97,98,99.....100........ He opens his eyes and finds Newton standing in front........

Einstein says " newton's out..newton's out....."

Newton denies and says "I am not out........I am not Newton......"

Who is out and why ?

I was pondering relativity (as you do) and wondered why a particle can't go faster than the speed of light when we could could send a particle at the speed of light in one direction, and another particle in the opposite direction so that relative to each other the first could be considered still and the other is therefore travelling at the speed of light *2. Extrapolating that idea, why not send a particle accellerator at the speed of light in one direction, and then accellerate a particle from it so the particle is going at the speed of light *2, and then from our lab (where we started) do the same thing in the opposite direction, therefore creating particles travelling at 4* the speed of light.

Clearly some pretty major technological issue to overcome :) but surely that sound in theory???

when i added 12 M HCl to a saturated 5.4 M NaCl the solution bubbled and fizzed and a line of separation was formed. The question asked me what the Cl- concentration in the original solution and i think its 5.4 M that it asked after the addition of 12 M HCl and i think it 12+5.4 which is 17.4 M, than it asks me to explain in terms of the relative Cl concentration in the two solutions, and it terms of the equilibrium NaCl>< Na+Cl can someone help me analyze that question?
