There are lots of sites available for your research. If you want to search in the internet, type the most appropriate and the closest possible words or titles to your topic. Search also other keywords like this words: science, science project, chemistry, etc. which can help in your study. But first you have to finalize first your topic in order to go further with the research. Without choosing a specific topic, you cannot research fully. I have done this a lot of times like school research and thesis and i find the internet a lot more helpful than the public library. Though I still suggest you to go to the library for further historical or whatever topic you like there.

Check the U.S. patent office web site. You can see a lot of patents and how things are done while researching whether your idea is truly a novel one. It is suprisingly easy.
