Light travels at a speed ofd 299,792 kilometers per second. How long does it take light to get from:
1. New York to Los Angeles, 3900 km?
2. the sun to the earth, 150 million km?
3. earth to pluto at its closest point of approach, 4.44 billion km? (answer in hourse)
4. If it takes light 10.34 hours to cross the Milky Way galaxy, then use that fact to figure the distance across the Milky Way?

A photon is an example of a massless particle. Presumably a particle describes a body of a finite size. So how can a particle be massless.

My BS program at UCLA is about to be disolved. Geology programs all over the country are loosing students dispite the skyrocketing job market. This is an increasingly dangerous problem. How can we get more people to become geologists?
