Since the Earth has managed to hold water in a liquid state for over four billion years and since the Sun has heated up by some 25% during the same time, why has the water in the oceans remained liquid?. The amount of greenhouse gases over this time, although varying widely, fails to fully explain the problem.
Therefore has the Earth managed to increase its distance from the Sun's heat during geological time?

About a reference to a person in your autobiography. I believe my uncle had come across a reference to my grandfather in your book. At his work, they may have called him, Hank, as you knew him. So my uncle had almost missed it, since the family called him Allen. My uncle awoke and called my aunt at almost 2:30 a.m. saying, "That was daddy!!". Henry Allen Hickman was his name, a treasure lost. renata.

The only answer I could find on the net was interest as to why we study space. Shouldn't we use that money to improve life first. Build more hospitals, provide better health care to those who don't have it, help out the elderly instead of letting them live in poverty, help out of work people that want to work by providing them an education, etc., help those mothers or fathers that have jobs and are trying to provide for their children but don't receive child support, etc, etc, etc, the list could go on forever.

Is the purpose of adding salt to cooking water (such as boiling pasta or potatoes) for flavor, or does it reduce the boiling point of the water -- thereby shortening the time needed to bring it to boil?

Or does it increase the boiling point, causing the cooking to occur at a higher temperature?

Can someone please help me out with a physics question. I solved my other question but I'm just having trouble with this one. If you guys can help me out, it would be so appreciated:
A 500 watt electric heater is used to boil 2kg of water at 40 degrees celcius into steam at 130 degrees celcius. <---assume constant volume.
a) Determine the amount of thermal energy required.
b) If the process takes 3.5 hours determine the efficiency of the heater.
I know you guys will need specific heat capacities and latent heat vapourization and all those so please email me at ashamon32@aol.com and I'll respond right back. If you you don't want to type then you can write it and then scan it. I hope I don't sound demanding, but just any help would be really good right now as I'm struggling. I can't ask my teacher as it's an assignment nor any of my classmates; they all have different assignments. It would be better if you guys could help me in emails instead of here. But any help u offer then thank U

Think about this - everything we know on this earth has a beginning, an end and is contained in something (air is contained within the atmosphere, the water of a river is contained within it's banks (except when it floods), etc.). So, what is the universe contained within?, if at all? Does it have an end or a beginning? When I was 15 and learning about the structure of atoms the idea occured to me that perhaps each galaxy was like an atom, for example, the Sun in our galaxy would be the the nucleus and the planets would be the electrons. A basic notion but could this contain some truth? If so, what is the universe contained within? And what would that be contained within? etc, etc, etc!

If I had a very large fish tank in my basement on a set of large scales. It was filled with water and the usual fish tank stuff. If I hopped into the fish tank and floated in the water, not touching any part of the fish tank, would the fish tank weight more with me in it, or would it make no difference to the original weight of the tank?
