Almost every other country in the world uses the metric system of measurement (meter, gram, celsius, etc).
Should the United States convert to this system like the rest of the world, or should it stick to the English System (inch, yard, miles, ounce, pint, etc)?

I'm thinking of 2 sealed containers with a hole in the top of each one. In the hole, I place an upside-down-u-shaped pipe joining them together. I container is salt water, the other is emptied. Can I boil the salt water (to separate salt from water), let the water evaporate into the pipe, and cool it on the other side to turn back into water? More importantly, would this make it safe enough to drink if I were stranded on an island?

A dimension that doesn't affect the patent's function can be changed. Is this statement right? For example: a 1/4" hole changed to a 5/16" hole when the patent specifies that liquid go throught that hole (no specified size).

I know that there isn't specified dimension on patent papers but I want to make sure that changing a dimension causes that product not to be patented anymore.

It seems the reason for the "fuel problem" with our rockets getting into space is that everyone is in too much of a hurry. If you utilized a cheaper technology, such as a hot helium balloon, to get the rocket at a decent height before finally firing up the rockets, couldn't you cut down on the costs of the launch quite a bit? Also, wouldn't storing the energy in a flywheel be a lot smarter than using tons of rocket fuel?
