With the current advances in transportation technology, it will be possible it is just a matter of time. The main problem that space exploration has to deal with is radiation surges caused by solar flares. They have to develop a proper shielding and detection system that is light enough to launch into outer space. That is one of the reasons why it is debated whether or not man has even walked on the moon because of the immense amount of radiation that the ship would have been forced to endure would it have traveled that distance. There are a number of other proofs provided for both sides taht I will not get into. I think that it is possible and that man will accomplish it if the Lord tarries his coming.

It is certainly possible to bring humans to Mars witihn ten years with current tehcnology using only about a third of NASA's annual budget each year. Robert Kubrin is the authority on the In-Situ Martian Resource Utilization techniques that would be required, and if you're interested, I can highly reccomend his book, "The Case for Mars".

Of course, Mars is an inner planet. Travelling to the outer planets would be far more problematic and in all seriousness, without a drastic revolution in our technology, it is not conceivable that we will ever travel beyond Mars. Ever. The distances are simply too great, and numerous technical difficulties are, with our current understanding, simply unsurmountable.

Edit - without getting too far into the radiation issue, the ammount of radiation that the sun throws out all day and night (?!) is below acceptable levels with only minimal shielding. The real dnager is from solar flares and the like, catastrophic solar events that throw out HUGE ammounts of radiation. Fortunately, if we can predict or detect these events in advance, it would not be difficultl to construct a "bomb shelter" within a spacecarft that could adequitely protect the crew.

Sorry sweety, but life was meant to stay here on Earth. This is because the perfect balance of our energy fields is what allows for life. Let me explain:

The Sun is like the filament in a light bulb, not a nuclear reactor. When a massive galactic, electric current flows over the Sun, the resistence it encounters causes the Sun to heat up and glow. When this first happened to the Sun all the little tiny atoms gave up a lot of their extra electrons because of all this extra energy from the current.

The Sun's magnetic field is like a doughnut, and keeps these free electrons floating around in our solar system. When the massive electric current feeding the Sun slows down, the Sun pulls back some of its lost electrons. When the current picks up, the Sun lets go of the electrons again.

It's these freed electrons that allow us to even exist because they are used in our biosphere. If the current to the Sun were to slow significantly, there would be massive tornadoes and hurricanes as the Earth would be releasing its electrons out from under our atmosphere into space and to the Sun. The Earth would slowly turn into a barren wasteland and no one would know why, except that things are getting hotter and it's not raining so maybe that's it.

Anyways, it's the stable energy fields of Earth that support life. Travel too far and you'll find yourself literally falling apart, although you'd probably be dead before it got that far along.

It sounds like too difficult a challenge. The trip would take so long and the amount of supplies and support equipment so enormous I just don't see how it could be done. Besides, what could humans do at the outer planets that robot spacecraft couldn't do almost as well?

And I'm pretty sure that it would end up being a one-way trip. Would you volunteer for it?

Before that could happen the second coming of the Lord would occur. Then we will be too busy doing the Lord's work to worry about things like that.#-#
