On board a cargo ship, a seaman happily listens to his radio tuned in at a local station. The announcer gave the time to be 12:30 P.M. but the ship's chronometer indicated that it is already 6:30 P.M. At what longitude is the cargo ship? Providing solutions would be great.

There are so many things in this world we cant explain. Why do we humans think we are so special that if we cant see it, it doesnt exist. What if we dont have the ability to understand what the after life is about? A long while ago people thought planes and tvs were fiction and cell phones too. Maybe decades or centuries from now, the people on this earth will be thinking we, the poeple of the past, were the self absorbed ignorant ones. Watch Ghost Hunters on SciFi. That opened my mind a lot. Whatch "Ghostly Soldier." There is no explanation for what happended in that episode. Just wanting to get other's ideas on this. I don't think religion is a factor at all. What if lthere is a life after death. What if it just ...is.

in winkipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_light) i read that the glowing color that colmes from nucler rods stored in heavy water is produced by electrons travveling faster than the speed of light. how is that possible???????

I was sat on a short-haul plane yesterday and as usual the acceleration at takeoff is pretty impressive. But how impressive is it compared to a car? I couldn't find anything on the internet. Also I'd be interested if anyone can figure out the difference between acceleration of short-haul and long-haul flights, as we know that big aircraft are much less... The other thing is what 'g' do you pull on takeoff and landing? Thanks!

You can only do this with an object that is floating in the water. And you need a pretty big tank filled to the brim and zero surface tension because a tank that big could support a lot of airoplane just with the surface tension. Archimedes law was dealing with objects that did not float. This was a method to determine the volume of gold and its purity in a crown of gold. A cubic foot of gold and a cubic foot of aluminium will both displace a cubic foot of water if immersed in a tank of water. The displaced water only measures the volume displaced. If you also know the weight of the object you can know if it is 100% gold or if it gold plated over a base metal. In the RAF they actually weigh a plane to know its weight and its centre of gravity by using lifting jacks and a load cell to measure the force at each lifting point. There is no way to weigh without a scale. But perhaps you know a way?

I was taught in school that humans are about 90% water.
How come then, we are known as a carbon based life form? Carbon is not an essential for life in the way that oxygen and nitrogen are etc.
