Most people are concerned with their privacy, at least when it comes to their own privacy - but just what is privacy? That's a difficult question to answer, in part because the question of privacy is so complicated and filled with so many contradictions. There are many different kinds of privacy which we may or may not have a right to: right to protect personal data, right to privacy in personal decisions, and so forth. Which, if any, do we really have a right to?

Many people who oppose abortion or who only weakly support abortion rights will often focus their objections on the idea of "abortion on demand." They see something wrong with abortion being readily available. But if abortion is not available "on demand," what is the point of it being legal?

Republicans narrowly escaped a potentially demoralizing defeat in yesterday’s special House election to fill the California seat vacated by jailed former representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham, blunting Democratic hopes of turning the contest into the first step toward a change of power in the House in November.
Lobbyist and former representative Brian Bilbray squeezed out a victory over Democrat Francine Busby.

We are approaching 10 trillion in national debt ($10,000,000,000,000) and wasting $1b/week in Iraq. Bush doesn't abide by laws he doesn't agree with. He chooses to cross off sections of laws that he signs. There are multiple violations of the constitution, including warrantless searches and approving of torture. We are isolated in the world, and the odds of more terrorist attacks are only increasing. I could keep going. The question is: can this be fixed, or is it part of a permanent US decline?
