Blair told us and the rest of the world, that the arrested Brits were in Iraqi waters. But unfortunately, all our sailors have now admitted they were tresspassing.
They looked perfectly natural and relaxed and some were even joking and smiling. None had any signs of rough treatment, which in any case as professionals they would have been trained to resist. Especially their officer.
I thought showing them on TV, in dignified circumatsnces, was a kind gesture of reassrance to their families by the Iraneans, although Blair tried to turn even that against them.
So why does not Blair say our naval people tresspassed by mistake and sorry, we shall be more careful next time. Here is £10 million in compensation? Why must we turn every minor incident into a major issue and create more animosity among nations?
