I find myself thinking about the number of shootings executed by young men this year. It is truly heartbreaking that they felt so badly, so angry, they felt the need to conduct a violent retribution against their society, against their fellow human beings. There was Seung Hui-Cho, the 23 year old South Korean English major from Virginia Tech who killed 32 people back in April before killing himself. There was Asa Coon, the 14 year old boy who injured 4 people before killing himself at Success Tech Academy in Ohio in October. There was Pekka-Eric Auvinen, the 18 year old student who killed 9 people in Jokela Secondary School in Finland before killing himself in November. There was 19 year old Robert A. Hawkins, who killed 9 people in Westroads Mall in Nebraska on December 5th before killing himself. And there was 24 year old Matthew J. Murray, who killed 5 people at the churches Colorado YWAM and New Life in Colorado on December 9th before killing himself.

San Francisco's major has suggested this tax, which I think is a very good idea. It could help in the fight against dental cavities in young children and obesity in adults as well as younger people. If huge taxes can be levied against beer why not soft drinks as well?

Basically, I'm just looking for opinions and ideas for a paper. If you have any resources, post those too.
I was thinking that the Miranda warnings might have to change because of things like immigration and might have to beef up because of terrorism.
Thanks!

It was reported that 11 Islamic Jihad Militants were killed Monday night for firing rockets and Israeli civilians. How's the bad guy here? I think they should kill them all whenever and wherever. Why don't other 'big' Arab countries offer the Palestinians some land and help to end this mess? Why do Palestinians refuse to negotiate and live by their agreements, they will never be strong enought to defeat Israel....Compromise?

All I see when I look through papers like The Express, Daily Mail etc all I see is sensationalism and speculation, which celeb's got cellulite this week and how everything is to be blamed on the ethnic minorities. Even news channels like the BBC and Sky News are shoddy and I've yet to see a balanced report in all sources mentioned above. The only paper I can find which offers balanced reports is the Times!

I believe the media have a lot to answer for. They create hatred and uproar and only seem to focus on negative issues and this really frustrates me. Why can't they just report things which have happened and offer a fair and balanced piece. What has happened to journalism and the media? They're fuelling the fires of the ignorant causing fear and hatred in society. What do you think should be done? Do you have the same opinion?

A health-conscious Santa Claus is refusing to wear a pillow under his suit because he fears it may promote child obesity.

Bill Winton, a slim 80-year-old, said if children viewed chubby Father Christmas as a role model they could grow up thinking that it was alright to be overweight.

He decided to remove his extra padding after noticing the young children sitting on his knee had become heavier over the years.

Mr Winton, who weighs in at just 12st, is currently dispensing gifts and festive greetings at the Westside Plaza shopping centre in Edinburgh.

He said he was proud of the fact that he had a healthy diet and did not consume sugary drinks.

It states in the latest article that kirsty McColl died at 41, the same year she was hit by a speedboat in mexico...

I'm not surprised she died in the same year as that, as it was the speedboat that killed her!!

I've heard of this but I've never experienced it with my own eyes until today!

I'm sat here in my loung, I watched the postie come to the door and go back out the garden. I checked the mail 3 minutes later to find a 'sorry you were out' card!

I'm so not out!

If for whatever reason I don't hear the postie he opens the door and drops the parcels in! I order a lot on line and he knows me so doesn't mind doing this - it's easier for me and him!

This was a different postie today.

I'm really angry becuase I'm going to struggle to get to the sorting office before Christmas.

I phoned them but he was nothing short of useless - I asked if I should get in my car and catch up with the postie to get the item he supposodly wasn't able to get through my letter box but he told me that wasn't advisable!!!!
