With half of a smile and a wistful stare,
"Which no one writes but just gets written
In one look, and in that glance, the soul is bare."
"Love is sweat," said the farmer,
"It's toil and hardship to show that I care
For the simple woman who waits for me,
Each evening with flowers in her hair."
"Love is mercy," said the priest,
"That the dear Lord shows, so don't despair.
Even the worst sinner on repenting,
Can expect what's more than fair."
"Love is blood," said the soldier,
"That my sword and theirs will share,
And the holy blood-mark on my forehead
Will all our enemies scare."
"Love is a triumphant smile," said the mother,
"On my little girl singing to a crowd out there,
At last she meets her Daddy's eyes,
She doesn't care for the other smiles everywhere."
"Love is everything," said the girl,
Who just turned sixteen and without a care,
Ran away from her home,
Her life and dreams to share.
