Did you know that the factory that produces a hybrid car's battery adds more pollutants to the air than if you were to drive a regular car? Driving a hybrid not only doesn't save the trees, it also gives you less power (unless it's a Lexus).

Why not use in all cars ? Is it because of the explosive hazard ? Isn't it cheaper than gasoline and more readily available ?

So, I have a Highlander that I received second hand from my parents. It's a great car; but, it fuel efficiency rating is very low and it "eats" a lot of gas. I try to be as "green" as I can and I am also trying to save some money. So, I thought about seeling the SUV and getting a Prius. But, I am scared because I have read a lot of mixed remarks about hybrids. Should I get a hybrid, a diesel, or a gas car? And what car specifically do you recommend?

I saw a documentary about them recently and they look so good for the environment.

They also talked about how they had a recall on them. What do you think??

Not advocating using more coal but after all most of the electric power is from coal.

doing a search for electric cars I come up with tons of conversions available as well as some very nice production models coming out soon - both reasonably priced and also high zoot. So much less maintenance, cheaper too run, and no emitions at all. If youre keeping within a hundred miles of home, as everyone almost always does, why not go electric?
And what happened to the ethenol fuel cell? simpler than hydrogen in every way.
I feel it's a marketing hype - misdirection from what is really "green" and not just "greener"
A hybrid is just a car with good gas mileage.
I'll find you an electric car that suits everything you want -try me!

hybrids are costly, and they use batteries.

new ultracapacitors can rapidly store charge...energy and release it....such systems could be a lot more efficient when compiled with a battery...one system in the news boasted a car with no use of fuel but the fast charging of an ultracapacitor.

If America REALLY wants to be free of all co2 emissions (which I don't think causes global warming btw)....and also not be dependent on oil..

Then what we would do is.....

build a huge nexus of nuclear reactors...that charge 'modules'. from all the cars with this system...which are basically ultracapacitors compiled with a battery.

When you need a charge up...(an ultracapacitor can be charged fairly fast). you go to a 'gas station' which has charged up modules, and which you replace. Battery gets you to places if you run out of charge in your ultracapacitor.

no need for fuel in cars....then gas is only used for heating and other things.
