Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Since hydrogen is a good fuel for vehicles , why water cannot be used as a ' fuel ' in vehicles? Why can't the vehicle break up the water molecule (which consists of 2 hydrogen atom & 1 oxygen atom) and use the hydrogen atom for burning and emit oxygen into the atmosphere ?

while in Las Vegas for about a year I saw 1 Ethanol station if you would like to call it that, and they sold this so called flex-fuel that General Motors is so proud about and that was a 85% gasoline 15% ethanol blend. I just wanted to get things cleared up.

This is actually a rhetorical question - the answer is that they do. However, I've seen a number of people in the Environment section say that electric vehicles simply move pollution and emissions around (to wherever the power plants are).

While it's certainly true that the greener our power grid is, the greener electric cars are, even with the current US electric grid mix, electric vehicles will produce a significant decrease in total emissions. See this report for further details:

Considering this information, shouldn't we be pushing for electric vehicle research and development?

I have a avalanche truck which I am able to use Ethanol in. I was so excited with the high gas prices. What a relief. NOT REALLY!!! It is a lot nicer to fill my tank for about 20 bucks less, BUT I get the worst Mileage when I use it. I would rather pay for the expensive fuel, and get better mileage. I know it is better for the environment....but I cant fill up 2 to my 1 time just for that. Any suggestions?

University Of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado, USA, had a project using hydrogen to power a generator using air conditioning compressors as an engine and hydrogen as the power source. No one monitors the email address listed 2 years ago. I am interested in providing power to locations where power is not currently available due to distance or location. I propose the program would be funded by the Philippine govenment. My services nearly free. I would like to solve this as my contribution to society in my retirement years.

My current vehicle can do the following:

Travel for 250 miles at highway speeds (70 mph) on a single tank of gasoline.

Accelerate from 0-60 in 10 seconds as long as their is gasoline in the car.

When the fuel tank is empty, it can be completely refilled in less than 10 minutes.

A full tank of fuel cost $45.00

I can refill at thousands of convienient locations all across the country.

It can comfortably carry two adults and their luggage on long trips (and still do 250 miles on a tank of gas and accelerate from 0-60 in ten seconds).

It can maintain their comfort even when the outside temperature is as high as 100 deg F or as low as 0 degrees F, and still do 250 miles at highway speed and 0-60 in 10 seconds.

It went 170,000 miles before needing any major repairs. These repairs, when done, cost $4,000.

It cost $40,000 when new.

If there is an electric car that can do all this, I might just buy it.

I have an old Bedford CA campervan, the engine is good and works, however I was wondering what alternatives that I might be able to install, in order to save money and to reduce the emissions as it is 40 years old, so not exactly the cleanest thing!

Are there certain pros and cons to the different types available, such as natural gas, electric or using vegetable oil?

Any information on the subject would be a great help.

Thanks,

In my area, many dogs regularly *** and ***** (i'm a witness) and lick my neighbors' windows. Of course, that kind of behavior makes me furious, but mysteriously, clovers grow on the ground exposed to dog secretions. So my question is precisely, what kind of relationship lies between the chemical components in a dog's organism and the prerequisites for a clover to grow?

I'm wondering if the cost of your electriciy bill will go up a lot when you start charging your new hybrid car (such as a Prius)? Does it completely offset the MPG savings in gasoline? Do you break even? Does it cost MORE in electricity?

I mean we sold them for 2 years and now have the technology where you don't need a special plug in and it gets 300 miles a charge. The hydrogen isn't practical and the hybrid still uses gas. I want a car that never needs gas. How do you all feel?

You plug your car in the wall every day and drive it every day. How many miles to a buket of coal do you get. And that is if that is the closest plant to you.

This is an electric car for 40 miles, then when the battery runs out, you use the gas to recharge the electric engine...i thought it was a cool idea.
