Although he was Pink Floyd's frontman and his work dominated their first album, Syd never became a household name. And I'm sure that's exactly the way he liked it.

By all accounts Pink Floyd was still a struggling "underground" band by the time he left the Floyd in March 1968. He put out two solo albums in the following two years, but unfortunately neither made much of an impression on the mainstream rock world.

In the following years, Syd retreated to his Mum's modest house in a middle-class Cambridge neighbourhood where he quietly lived out his remaining years living an extremely simple life.

I admire Syd Barrett immensely. He's the only "rock star" I can think of who had a brief brush with noteriety, said "No, thank you, I think I'll pass" and went about living a quiet, more-average-than-average life and never once looked back.

Is Syd the world's most famous non-famous person? I'd say yes. What about you?

Isn't it weird that the verbally exceptional artist are not chart toppers / top sellers and have been labeled "underground" artist.
Artist / groups like talib kweli, mos def, dead prez, jean grae, mad skillz, wordsworth, canibus, immortal technique, etc. are creating some of the most dramatic, unique & prolific music to date.
It seems to me that the more intelligent your lyrics are, the less attention you will get.
In contrast, in the past (80's through early 90's) groups that were lyrically superior like eric b & rakim, public enemy, krs-one, stetsasonic, tribe called quest, queen latifah, mc lyte, etc. were widely known as the best artist and there record sales relected just that.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts?

Early 90s, the white boy's dad was in the Klan and set the Black boy's house on fire. The white boy tried to get the Black boy out of the house, but the roof caved in and they both died. They were buried in the same grave. I cannot remember anything...lyrics, artist or the exact year.

Forgive me, but I'm white. I don't actually understand any of this song, and I'm currently attempting to "translate" this, as it might as well be a foreign language. So I'm curious as to what a "D" is.
My friend said that it means "dub" but I don't know what a "dub" is either. So if that's the case, lets Caucasionize it for me.
