After studying Mandarin for so many years now, I have a theory that Chinese singers have to be the best in the world. That’s because the language itself is tonal. So, it is both more demanding for the singer, and opens up even more possibilities for expression in song. And, as anyone can see by the number of KTV palaces in China, Chinese people LOVE to sing.
Anyway, here is my current list of favorites:
Mandarin –
Faye Wong (王菲)
Chen Lin (陈琳)
Pu Shu (朴树)
Jay Chou (周杰伦)
Wang Rong (王蓉)
Wang Li Hom (王力宏)
Angela (安又琪)
Jolin Tsai (蔡依琳)
NAND gate (与非门)
Water & Wood (水木年华)
Crystalake (水晶湖乐队)
Orange Grass ( 橙草 )
Shin (信乐团)
Julia Li You (李尤)
Sun Nan (孙楠)
Angela Chang (张韶涵)
Vicki Zhao (赵薇)
Jessica Jiang Xin (姜昕)
Cantonese –
Eason Chan (陈奕迅)
Kelly Chen (陈慧琳)
Stephanie Cheng (郑融)
Aaron Kwok (郭富城)
Who are your favorites? If you've never heard of any of these artists I urge you to check them out, and www.YourTube.com and www.YesAsia.com are great places to start.
