I mean, really, it's ROME right? In what is ITALY. So, shouldn't they at least be speaking like Stallone or someone from the Sopranos??

sure, Kevlar, I know it is fiction.(duh) I just think its FUNNY! they had actors with ALL sorts of accents to deal with, and yet, even though the movie is supposedly in ROME, they had everyone adopt this psuedo-English accent! than cracks me up!

Maybe because Russell Crowe is Australian and Richard Harris is English. There's no point in trying to put on a Roman accent - no one knows what it sounds like. A bad accent distracts from the film more than it helps.

The movie was historicaly inaccurate. It's not based on a 'true' story. When you watch movies like Gladiator, don't overthink. Chances are you'll believe that they really did have English accents.

The main reason why this is, is because most of these movies have European actors and/or are filmed in Europe.

Funny. I think the Movie was excellent. I probably watch it too much. Well that's what my girlfriend says anyways. One of my favorite scenes is when he is fighting the African legioneers. I wonder if something like that really did happen in history. Anyways I digress. I'm Itallian and I don't talk like that, but now if I was from Sicily that might make a difference.
