...as in, "lack of awareness of the environmental consequences of their consumption habits"?

I thought "oblivion" would work, but the dictionary says oblivion is more related to forgetfulness than lack of awareness.

...to make a 5-letter word.
An example of what I mean: the word 'exorcise' is an 8-letter word that can have any of 2 letters added to the end of it to make a 9-letter word: 'exorcised' or 'exorcises.'
