...to make a 5-letter word.
An example of what I mean: the word 'exorcise' is an 8-letter word that can have any of 2 letters added to the end of it to make a 9-letter word: 'exorcised' or 'exorcises.'

First best/correct answer gets 10 points and a thumbs-up. And even if your word is different from mine, you'll get the points. But I'm curious to see if there are any 'wordsmiths' out there. Good luck and good hunting!

I see that I didn't follow directions well, and this is the best I can come up with now.
Rave.
Raves, raved, raven, ravel, rave
Join.
Joins, joint, join
Hole.
Holey, holed, holes, hole
Past.
Pasts, paste, pasty, past
Toot.
Toots, tooth, tooty, toot
Like.
Liker, liked, likes, liken
Hear.
Hears, heard, heart, hear

Aw. heck, I can't do this. I had the same words going as I saw on another answer with the "s" words, so that was no good; and it wasn't very good in the first place. This is Hard! A star for you...
