"Evolutionary common sense would suggest that this leopard — an island inhabitant, after all — might well be a species all its own, distinct from its mainland relatives."

In the above sentence. what does "after all" mean? The meaning of "after all" is frequently used, but in this case, it seems the conventional definition doesn't work well. In other words, what's the function of this phrase to connect the rest of the sentence? Many thanks.

Could you please correct the following sentence?

'Cultural exchange between two countries has its source far into the past, and the stream has grown long to the present.'

'Two countries has a long history in cultural exchange' is what I'd like to say. Though I am not a native English speaker and have a difficulty in making a correct sentence, I'd like make it literary.

Please help me.

I need a latin translation for the phrase always believe in yourself. I have "semper confido in vestri" I know confido or puto would mean "I beleive" so I need it to mean just 'believe' and I am not sure if I have vestri in the right case for this or not. any help would be appreciated. Then I would probably email it to my latin teacher for a double check.
