A septic tank is a definite no-no.
But I've never come across 'merry can'. So not knowing what that is, I rather be neither : )

I'd rather be a merry can because of the great parades once a year. Septic tanks never get parades.

Well as Merry Can sounds better (If I have to choose) it would be that

Assuming they both refer to being American (the term "seppo" is in common use in Australia - short for septic tank) I'll be neither thanks very much. Urgh imagine being universally disliked
