Well I'm not sure if the meaning has changed or not over the years but here is my take on it.

Squeak = tight and tight = cheap. So I think they might be calling you cheap.

I agree if you are too tight (cheap) you will squeak when you walk.
Reminds me of the Scottish cure for seasickness - you lean over the rail with a dollar bill between your teeth.

I've heard it most often used in reference to females who are not willing to give to advances from males. These reluctant females are being characterized as keeping their legs so close together they "squeak when they walk." I've never heard it used in reference to someone who is cheap with money.
