Right, I've heard both expressions but living in the States now I'm told that to 'throw a cow' is incorrect, and the correct expression is to 'have a cow' or to 'throw a fit'. Is this true, or is there actually an expression 'to throw a cow'?

the phone rang and rang but no one answered because they had all went out for pizza.
I wonder if the tense "went" is right or is it "gone"...rang and rang is past tense and if I stay in past tense then it will be "went" yet if I change it to "gone'' then I change it to past participle...can I do that in a sentence - have past tense and past participle??
