Right, I've heard both expressions but living in the States now I'm told that to 'throw a cow' is incorrect, and the correct expression is to 'have a cow' or to 'throw a fit'. Is this true, or is there actually an expression 'to throw a cow'?

I've heard them all.... Don't know if 'throw a cow' is not correct, but 'have a cow' is. Or you could say, 'throw a fit'. n

While most of us are familiar with "have a cow", "throw a cow" does exist in two contexts that I know of.
1)There is an online game called "Cow Tossing" It involves throwing a cow from a catapult onto a target on the grass while a farmer stands by to give discouraging comments. Check the Internet for more info: Cow games

2) Also the Pennsylvanian German communities - those in the US and those that later moved up to the Waterloo area in Canada- have an expression with "throw the cow..." but I can't remember the situation in which it is used.

Both "have a cow" and "throw a fit" are correct and are expressions that mean the same thing. As far as "throw a cow," I have never heard that expression, but what I have heard is "throw some bull" meaning bull s***, that is lie or tell a greatly exaggerated tale.

No, you don't say "throw a cow"- not in the States. (at least not where I am from). You would sound like my former Greek boss who told me that I was "running around like a chicken with no feathers".

Having a cow is correct. Throwing a fit is correct.
