My daughter had an IEP (Individualized Education Program) due to ADHD, Behavioral Disorder, Depression, Learning problems, etc...... Her HS was supposed to follow her IEP to a "T", but hasn't and she failed all but one of her classes her freshman year of HS.

Now, my husband and I are seeking to put her in a private school due to this reason. We understand that we can seek to have the local County School Board pay for her tuition since they failed to do their job appropriatly. Any suggestions on how to write this letter and not sound too condescending?

Hi there,

Sorry if I sound ignorant and foolish. I have a child with autism. I know it's different for every child, but I was curious about others on the spectrum. Do you have a driver's license and do you drive?

I am trying to make connection with individuals on the spectrum as I haven't met adults who are on the spectrum.

Thank you for your time and kind support. I wish to pose other questions in future which would require your opinions. Please stay tuned. I'd highly appreciate it if you could kindly take a moment to forward my question to as many people as you know of who are on the spectrum.

Thank you so much!!

Can the student just be struggling in the regular classes go to the self-contained classes? I wouldn't want my child to fail all of his regular classes. I want my child to succeed. So if my child is struggling in the regular classes, can I ask the school to put him in a self-contained class? Will that change anything if he is in self-contained classes? Will he be classified even more than before since it's more restrictive?

I think numbers look more like each other than letters do, I often find that I get a 3 mixed for a 5 or an 8 or a 6 for a 9. I guess it would be more difficult to diagnose if you weren't looking for it, as you can see wrong spelling but not someone getting numbers confused.

I am the mother of a 10 year old Autistic child, and I worry about who will care for him when I am dead or too old to do so. I am currently in school to become a Registered Nurse and would like to open a group home for the mentally disabled, but I have no clue where to begin!

If I obtain a Physical Education Teaching Credential in Canada or Florida, am I still able to teach in California? I've recently decided to go into Physical Education and I am ultimately going to have an ADA Credential to work with the special education population. Could someone enlight me on this subject? Thanks.

I was just thinking about it as I looked at the fire alarm strobe here in the hotel. If they were bron deaf and could never hear anything from birth how do they know what someone is signing to them and how to put the letters together to make words? How do they know, when they are first learning, what someone is signing to them?

I am working with a young boy at school at the moment who is needing to be restrained daily. He can be fine for a while but then something 'clicks' and he then starts kicking and hitting people......anyone who is close by basically.....teachers....other kids. I try diversion tactics, encourage him to make 'good' choices give him adequate warnings etc but more often than not these startagies dont work and I need to either remove him from the class or hold his arms or legs to prevent him from hurting others. He has a statement of special needs.

My question is 1) should I be restraining him anyway as I have never had any training for this. If I accidently hurt him I would be in trouble wouldn't I ?
2) I have my own health problems and I could do myself an injury also.

Does anyone know of anywhere online where I can get more advice on restarint and violence in schools and also how bad it has to be before children are excluded (which he has been a few times already!)

Thanks
