I am the mother of a 10 year old Autistic child, and I worry about who will care for him when I am dead or too old to do so. I am currently in school to become a Registered Nurse and would like to open a group home for the mentally disabled, but I have no clue where to begin!

Unless you are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization you can not get grants. You will have to have a business plan, a person with appropriate credentials to be the director (with a business background), and a source for your clients. Know that is many states (should be all) groups homes have fallen out of favor. What exists instead is supported independent living homes. People chose to live in the community with whom they wish and have organizations provide them in home supports.
