What is the meaning of this passage: "Crooks had reduced himself to nothing. There was no personality, no ego- nothing to arouse either like or dislike. He said, 'yes, ma'am, and his voice was toneless"

"The hardest years in life are those between ten and seventy."

I have to write a paper about the meaning of this quote, I've gotten quite a bit but it's still not near long enough, any input would be great.

75. ONE day I wrote her name upon the strand,
but came the waves and washèd it away:
again I wrote it with a second hand,
but came the tide, and made my pains his prey.
Vain man, said she, that dost in vain assay,
a mortal thing so to immortalize,
for I my self shall like to this decay,
and eek my name be wipèd out likewise.
Not so, (quoth I) let baser things devise,
to die in dust, but you shall live by fame:
my verse your virtues rare shall eternise,
and in the heavens write your glorious name.
Where whenas death shall all the world subdue,
our love shall live, and later life renew.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.

I am making a card for my friend and his family...I want to start it off with an appropriate quote--they're kind of my family, kind of my friends. Do you know any fitting quotes?

Thank you.

Looking for the words to this poem but I am on a timescale.

I have most of the words but .... denotes missing word or words.

As some trees are evergreen and wither not at Winters breath - so some memories survive untouched by change of life or death. Time scatters not the golden leaves they fade .... as the years depart - but ........................... everlastingly within the gardens of the heart.
strangely do they grow in beauty, like old trees beside the pond. Linking..................departed in ............................lie beyond. ...................gives us back ...................though long ................that stretch between never ......................when memories are evergreen.

I would be really grateful if somebody could give me the missing words. My mum, who recently passed away, has carried this cutting in her purse for over 60 years - given to her by her sister and we would like to use it at the funeral. Thank you in anticipation

Learning to swim won't give you control over the ocean, but you will be able to control where you are going.
I'd like to know who first said this, and I'm afraid I have no clue to help you.

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
