A shadow is something tht is not consistent. it changes with change in the source of light, its position and also depends on the position and the angle 4m which u r viewing the object....but the thingto which the shdow belongs, does not change. its stays the same no matter where u obsreve it 4m...similarly the object here used to personify character is tree(it can b any object).thus it means tht character is something tht does not change, something tht stays vit u all ur life, tht which defines u, ur true self, its ur nature. no other human being can manipulate it. reputation is lables tht others give u. therefore its like a shadow, here today gone tomorrow. vil change vit the change in surroundin. reputation is something is made by ppl, there opion abt u. but then again as the shadow requires the presence of the object.. reputation also stems 4m the basic nature...tht is the character.. but reputation is something tht will always be unstable.. at the mercy of others.

Your character is fundamentally who and what you really are
Your reputation is dependent on how others percieve you, just as the shadow is dependent on light. It may grow longer, shorter, fatter, thinner, etc. and is not always a true reflection of the actual tree.- not mirror image!!

Great quotation -- it is distinguishing what people believe about someone (reputation) from what a person is actually like in terms of integrity (character). What really matters is a person's character, and a person's reputation simply reflects their character.

You make your own reputation and that's how people will always think of you, even if you aren't really like your reputation.

Character is developed through experience, confidence, responsibility and maturity. These are traits that normally develop over time as a man ages.
