“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
— Calvin Coolidge, 30th American president (1872-1933)

Why? Because it is true. Lots of people don't do what it takes. They give up too easily. They quit without even trying. An example of this is when I took a calculus class, somebody said "I am not going to pass, math is hard, etc". He was giving up before even trying. He did end up passing the class.

Look at all the movies of people not giving up when faced with mountains of pressure. We like to see people triumph despite all odds.

Impact on me? I have tried keeping to it. It has helped me in a lot of endeavors. Sometimes I fail. It is really hard to do sometimes, not quitting and giving up. I try not letting other people get to me, but I have self esteem issues.

Sometimes the heart sees what's invisible to the eyes. I don't know who quote it but I love this quote. This make me see things in a whole new perspective. My ex use to hit me all the time. And I keep telling me he loves me because he will tell me he's sorry and he will treat me nice for a week or two before it happens again. But my heart has always told me, it's not right. So at the end, I end up leaving him because i trusted my heart.

Not an exact quote but something like this, "After you walk down the road for awhile with the grief you put the suitcase (the grief) down on the side of the road & keep on walking down the road." It is from the novel September by Rosamunde Pilcher. It's a way of thinking you have permission to move on with your life & live it when something terrible has happened (like a death). It helped me thru the stages of grief when my grandmother passed away.

“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.” -Albert Einstein

“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” -Albert Einstein

To me these quotes are somewhat related. I think that the more technologically advanced we become, the more dependent we are on allowing computers and technology to do our thinking and most of our actual work for us. Think about it...our everyday lives are chock full of technology the 'average' person would be incapable of reproducing. Take a simple disposable razor, for instance, or a ballpoint pen, or a match...I wouldn't have the slightest notion of how to 'build' any of them...

"One of the very nicest things in life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating." ~Luciano Pavarotti. Whatever you are doing, no matter how important, sometimes you just gotta drop it and take the time to stuff your face. This quote has inspired me to look at eating as a treasured act in life and to never feel guilty to drop tomorrow's due assignment to grab an oreo or two . . . or three . . .

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.”

Its so simple, yet says so much, a real treasure! I'm not sure who it's quoted from.

"The spaces in between your fingers were created so that another's could fill them"
"Love cures people. Both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it"
"This too shall pass"

And my favorite of them all..."Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts...and we are never, ever the same."

It takes a minute to like someone. An hour to know someone. A day to love someone, and a lifetime to forget. It's personal for me, it's about my 1st love.
