i need help with a couple of questions.
In Ch. 4, what do the horses' halter chains symbollize?

What does Curley's wife mean when she says,"You're all scared of each other, that's what. Ever' one of you's scared the rest is goin to get something on you"

What is the meaning of this passage: "Crooks had reduced himself to nothing. There was no personality, no ego- nothing to arouse either like or dislike. He said, 'yes, ma'am, and his voice was toneless"

They're really all interpretation questions. I just need a different way of looking at them.

Thnx XD

1. they symbolize or represent the men's imprisonment
2. She is pointing out that the men don't trust each other; they are all so poor that they can't share their secrets, or someone will take advantage of them
3. Crooks realizes that Curley's wife can get him in trouble to accuse him of rape and he "reduced himself to nothing" to show that he was afraid of her, and that he wasn't a threat.
