We are enrolling our (almost) 3 year-old son in a very traditional Montessori preschool for the upcoming fall. We feel very confident that this will be the right environment for him. Our only concern is that we've heard that the Montessori method stifles/discourages imaginative and/or fantasy play. Our son has a very vivid imagination, which we feel is one of his strengths. Montessori experts out there, how would you respond to this criticism? Is it just another misconception about the Montessori method, or is there some validity to it?

Does anyone know of free pre-school in Ohio, specifically the Cleveland Metro Area or East?? My husband and I do NOT qualify for Healthy Start, but we don't make a ton, and we have twins! They are 4 and have never been to pre-school. What should we do?

I have been charged the task of teaching my younger brother, who is five, the alphabet. He is going into kindergarten this fall, and can only recognize A-L. I have been teaching him for almost a year and he hasn't made any progress. He already knew A-L, but can't seem to remember the rest.

He also has a problem pronoucing S. He keeps pronoucing it X.

If you have any tips on how to help him learn, please tell!

Today a little boy (one year old) pushed another child over. the nursery teacher in charge shouted at the boy and said how would you like it and pushed him over and he started to cry. I felt really bad, i am pretty sure that there are laws on disapline and she was out of order, but im not sure how i should handle the situation. this isnt the first time something simliar has happends. your views please?

I nanny for 3 kids, a 4 year old girl and 7 year old boy who are brother and sister, and a 4 year old boy. THey all live together, mom and dad are engaged, getting married this Sept. The bro and sis are SO ugly to the other child. They refuse to play with him, tell him you're not our brother. They scramble to sit by each other with smug little looks on their faces. They throw things at him, tell him to be quiet. I feel bad for this little guy, he's a sweetie! How can I get them to stop with the ugliness???

My kid just turned 3 and goes to Day Care (preschool) near our house. Yesterday while dropping her, I saw a hyperactive kid running around the class. I saw him hit my kid and another one while running. Both started crying and 3 other kids yelled out at the same time "he always hits us".

I told the teacher and the Dir. of the place. The Dir. started to say, he usually calms down after a talk, he has his good and bad days, etc. That evening that kid struck mine with an object on her lips causing a bad bruise.

I called the Dir. and told her that her institution is not capable of handling such kids, the other kids in preschool do not have fast reflexes to handle things on their own and lastly if this kid is coming in only for 2 days a week, there is no way the day care can possibly influence his behavior when the other 5 days he is being reinforced by the other environment he's in.

What are my options, given this is a private Day Care? I'd rather err. On the side of caution.

My son is turning 4 in Aug. He thinks like an older child. Where can I get a free IQ test on line? He knows how to write his alphabets, numbers, and can draw very well. He speaks and understands what us "adults" are saying. He and I can have a conversation about stuff, and I forget he's only 3. Am I just being a proud parent? Or is he gifted?

He has a memory like no other, remembers everything he hears and watches. He can recall anything that he has heard or seen even from months even years back. Surprises the heck out of me when he recalls things from a year or two ago. If he has gone with us some where via car, and then travel there months later, he can tell us where we are going only a quarter of the way there, sometimes sooner depending on our route. Often we take the same route to get to different places for a quarter of the way.

Anyone has simular experiences with their 3/4 year old child? I would love to hear from you. Exchange notes if you will.
