In every person, event and life in general. For everything bad, there is something good and for everything good, there is something bad. In the short story of Greek Mythology called “Daedalus and Icarus”, Icarus was son of Daedalus famous for his death by falling into the sea when he flew too close to the sun. His death has taught us to follow the middle path and don’t swing into extremes.
Experiencing new things sometimes bring us the feeling of afraidness but also excitement. Icarus was scared to fly with his new pairs of wings that were invented by his father. Regardless, when he did get over his fear on taking the first step, he forgot his father’s warning “…keep a middle course over the sea. If…flew too high the sun might melt the glue and the wings drop off” (1). Despite his father’s advice, Icarus flew higher; being high with the exhilaration of flying, he reached the sun, which heat melted his wings and he fell into his death.
There’s always a lowest point in life you just have to realize and solve it quickly. Icarus breaks through his fear but he didn’t realize that he also has to maintain the balance of his excitement. If he had listen to his father to fly between the sea and the sun he would have survive but because he was running out of control, his path unbalanced.
Some people can’t control their balance of life but some can. In “The story of Demeter and Persephone”, Persephone explained to her mother, Demeter on why she chose to eat the seeds “‘yes, this is a world of darkness and death, just as yours is a world only of light and life. One cannot exist without the other. They are aspects of one experience, each incomplete without the other, just as I was incomplete until now. I belong here, Mother. I am a child of the sun and the flowers, but that is only half of my life. Here I find harmony and peace’” (22/23)
In this world one word has its opposite like good and evil, right and left, peace and war, or rich and poor. Your good doesn’t have to have bad in it, when you makes mistakes in your daily life you learn from your wrong and do it right or better the next time. However, in some situation you cannot rewind and try to fix it. So it’s always better to balance your life before things happened.
