1. why, do you think, did schindler risk his life to save Jews?did he do it to please others or to please himself?
I do not think he did it to please anyone at all. He did it because he is a human being that was sensitive to the suffering of others. Pure and simple. Anyone who can stand idly by and witness the unmitigated and unprecedented suffering and unwarranted horrors of others is not human. They are no less than an animal who can kill and torture without feeling.

2. what was the role of Stern?was his relationship to (and with)schindler more than employer-employee?
Yes, I believe his relationship was one of co-compassion for the suffering of the Jews. There is an old saying that says that "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it". We should also remember that not only Jews were killed by the Nazis but also there were Mexicans, South Americans, Canadians and Americans.

3. in the film, the Nazi commandant Goeth describes Jewish people as "vermin" and "rats".what purpose did language like this serve?give other examples of unflattering language used in the film to decribe Jewish people.
That was the language of reality as it was actually used on the Jews. It would have done a disservice to the humans of the world to water down the truth and reality as it actually occurred. I do not know other descriptions, but you can be sure that the German language was replete with references.

As idiotic as it may sound, there is actually a group of people on this planet who say that the halocaust did not happen. Even in light of all of the unbelieveable evidence (captured films, eyewitness testimony and etc). I do believe that it is an affront to the intelligence of anyone to hear such crap.

4. why didn't the Jew leave Poland instead of waiting to be sent to concentration camps?
Many did. However, by the time that the "truth" of the situation came to surface, the Germans had closed ALL roads and all ways in and out of the country. There were literally hundreds of thousands of Nazis in place to prevent them from leaving.
5. What is the significance of the girl in red?
I do not know. I believe that Spielberg wished to show the only thing of purity and innocence, the only thing with color and life in that way and it was cast on a little girl.

6. if the Nazi commandant Goeth had been brought to trial before you, claiming he was only following orders, what would your decision have been and why?
I personally categorize war as mankind's most supreme moment of insanity. This went beyond war and this was the finding of the Nuremberg trials in which the murders were found guilty and killed. There are casualties of innocents in war, surely. But even war has limits. That is a part of the UCMJ that American soldiers are bound to. If they surpass these limits as they did at the Abu Grabe prison fiasco in Iraq, then there are consequences to pay.
Even in war, you cannot rape babies, kill indiscriminately, torture for the fun of it. If such a person came before me and there was evidence to prove the allegations, then I would consider such a person to be nothing more than a disease within society and since I consider society to be much like a living body, I would have to eradicate it. That means death. On the spot.

Schindler's List Questions.

You will know of the character of a man by how he treats those who offer absolutely no benefit in return.

1. Oscar Schindler is a hero. The final scene of the movie before he drives off shows the motivation for his actions. He looked at his ring, his car, and the possessions he had on him and realized that he could have pawned them all and used the money to save more lives.

What must be remembered are the great lengths Schindler went to save people, even if they were not particularly productive. I am sure he found pleasure out of saving lives, and of course the ones he saved were pleased. It doesn't really matter whether or not he did it to please himself or others, the fact that he was risking his life speaks volumes about his intentions.

2. Stern seemed to grow on to Schindler's good side. It could be argued that it was because of Stern that Schinder took action, as do people when they have been personally affected by a tragedy. They were friends, and through Stern, Schindler was able to save others.

3. The purpose of using such language was to make others believe that they were not guilty of what they were doing. The struggle for rights in Germany and for civil rights in the 60's was a struggle for "who gets to be human." By using words like "rat," and "vermin," Goethe essentially dehumanized those he tormented in the minds of those he commanded. The words used to describe them do not to be re-surfaced.

4. No one ever made it back to confirm the accounts that these were actually concentration camps. The German people were also largely unaware of what was going on. Also, Jews in Germany could not believe the reports that they did hear and thought that the country that their family grew up in would soon stop the persecution. This was not the case.

5. Embodiment of passion, symbolic of life giving blood.

6. Guilty.
Guilty by Association. Conduct unbecoming an officer.

"All that is needed for evil to triumph is for the good to do nothing."

You will know of the character of a man by how he treats those who offer absolutely no benefit in return.

many of these are interpretation questions and its weird cuzi was just watching the movie today---its an excellent movie...to understand schindlers list u need a strong historical background about the condition of the jews at the time....the first question is very interesting--why would a man totally interested in money risk his life to save the Jews? notice that schindler was a supporter of the nazi party...but there was something in his about presentation---he thot that was most important---somewhere schindler had a conscience a burdensome one too---schindler is a prominent figure--he loves fancy living and luxury--so it just doesnt make sense---but its perfect ssee? schindler cant deny someone who puts their life in his hands bc he is good. he wants to be good---when he sees wrong it bothers him like his reaction to the man without an arm who comes to thank him...his relationship with stern shows from the start that he wasnt racist...schindler wanted money and the war was the way to increase his financial status---he had arrogance within him..and sterns influence over him---sterns silent aprehension---schindler seemed intrigued by this man---his silence said so much it convinced schindler to bring these workers to him for their safety..
schindler can be psychoanalyzed beyond limit---he is a very interesting figure

1, he did it because he had a concience. at first he only cared about money, but later he couldn't just leave that people to die.
2,?
3, Nazis reffered to Jews like that, I don't think it has a purpose, I just think it's historical context that adds realism.
4, Jews didn't leave Poland because at first they weren't sure of what was going on, and do you think the Germans would just let them leave?
5, The girl in red represents the blood of all the children who died in WWII
6, that's a tough one. I guess I would just do my job. I would spare his life but send him to prison for life.

You see Schindler having sex with a girl and there's nudity when they show emaciated prisoners in the camps.
